Angola 86-TENOKE Overview
The year 1966 and the South African Border War has begun with the South African Defence Force (SADF) being deployed to South West Africa. As a SADF commander, your mission is to wage a counter-insurgency (COIN) campaign to secure the region along the border with Angola Trinity Building Editor-TENOKE.
To win the support of the local population, you’ll need to track and eliminate SWAPO insurgents who infiltrate from Angola, causing instability by intimidating locals, laying mines, and ambushing your forces. These are insurgents are backed by the Angolan army (FAPLA) a Soviet Supplied conventional force with broader ambitions to control the entire region and unify Angola under communist rule.
FAPLA not only provides a safe haven for SWAPO but is also focused on defeating UNITA a faction supported by the USA and South Africa. To succeed in your COIN mission, you’ll need to coordinate ground troops, special forces, artillery, mechanized units, and air support, while also training local forces (SWATF). Winning the trust of the local population is Crucial as their cooperation will provide the intelligence needed to combat insurgents effectively.
Your challenges do not end on the battle field. As the SADF commander, you’ll also need to manage political support back home. Losing the backing of the United Nations could mean losing the war altogether.
This is game captures the essence of the South African Border War where counter insurgency operations are vital. Gathering is intelligence tracking insurgents destroying their bases in Angola and containing FAPLA are key to success. As you progress, you’ll rise through the ranks, watching your uniform transform from a junior Lieutenant to a General as you relive the South African Border War.
